PTCE 2026 Practice Test — Built on the Official Content Outline

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE®) is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Passing it earns the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential. PTCB published a new content outline effective January 6, 2026, and it changed the exam weights.

What the 2026 Exam Actually Looks Like

  • 90 multiple-choice questions — 80 scored + 10 unscored pretest items mixed in
  • 110 minutes (1 hour 50 minutes) of testing time; budget 2 hours total on exam day
  • Passing score: 1400 on PTCB's 1000–1600 scaled range
  • Computer-based, taken in person at a Pearson test center with a live proctor
  • Application and exam fee: $129
  • English only — there is no translated version of the PTCE

1. Medications35%8
2. Federal Requirements18.75%6
3. Patient Safety and Quality Assurance23.75%6
4. Order Entry and Processing22.50%4

What Changed in the 2026 Outline

The biggest change is that federal requirements grew from 12.5% to 18.75% of the exam, while Medications dropped from 40% to 35%. New content areas include Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) serialization and tracing, expanded FDA recall requirements, cleaning and infection-prevention standards, and immunization follow-up care. Narrow therapeutic index (NTI) drugs, therapeutic equivalence, and non-sterile compounding procedures were removed. Practice questions written for the old blueprint now test the wrong material.

How This Practice Bank Is Built

Every question is mapped to one of the 24 official content areas and the number of questions per domain matches the official weights, so drilling here mirrors the real exam mix instead of over-testing one topic. Each question comes with an explanation that states the governing rule (DEA schedule limits, DEA form numbers, CMEA limits, refrigerator and freezer ranges, sig codes, days-supply math, NDC segments, recall classes, and more).

Studying by Questions Instead of Reading

Active recall beats rereading. Work in full rounds of 90 questions — the exact length of the real exam — read the explanation for every question you miss and every question you guessed, then repeat the missed topic the next day. Because the bank is organized by the official domains, you can walk the entire outline and see exactly which areas are still weak.
